Southampton Jaguars finished 3rd in the Jeux d'hiver 2012 Rouen tournament, France (8th - 9th December 2012).
The Jags competed in France with 7 players in a 2 day tournament against Rouen A, Rouen B, BRHA Misfits and Renegades.
They started Day 1 drawing 4 all with Renegades after taking a 2 goal lead twice in the game. The 2nd game was a 3 all draw with the Misfits after again taking a 2 goal lead. The 3rd game of the day was against the clear winners Rouen Spiders (A); this ended in an 8 nil loss. The last game of Day 1 was a 4 all draw with Rouen Spiders (B) which was a very entertaining game after going 4 nil down. At the end of Day 1 the Jags finished 4th which meant on Day 2 they would play 3rd place in the Quarter Final against Misfits.
The Jags got off to a slow start going 2 goals down but eventually pulled it back and took the lead to make it 3-2. In the last minute of the game, the Jags got a penalty which Misfits took advantage of pulling their goalie to have a 5-3 on advantage; the Jags couldn't hold out conceding in the final seconds of the period. The game went to penalty shots which both goalies played exceptionally well to only concede 1 goal each. This lead to sudden death, and as the final shooter, Dave Orme, had an elbow injury, Nick Perry had a second bite at the cherry which he stepped up and scored, taking the Jags through to the Semis.
In the semi-final, the Jags played Rouen Spiders (B). After going a goal up in the 1st period and the Jags playing their best hockey, fatigue and penalties took their toll and they eventually lost 2-1.
In the Fina,l Rouen Spiders (A) won comfortably with another mercy win 8-0 against their counterparts.
Overall the Jags would like to thank Setti Mulari for inviting us to the tournament and with all his help in organising us getting there. We are very grateful.
Also thank you to the Rouen Spiders, they were good hosts and a great set of guys, hopefully see you again next year.
Also a big thank you to Markus Piippo, Jean-Pierre Spaddafor and Adrian Glick, without these guys we would of not been able to enter the tournament with enough players, thank you very much indeed.
